Student drives through to AoC National Golf Championships


A Sports student from West Cheshire College has been selected to represent the North West at the AoC National Golf Championships in Spring 2016.

Arron Woodward, 16, from Ellesmere Port, who is in his first year of College and is studying Level 3 in Sport Studies, says: “I was put forward to the AoC North West Golf Championships by my tutor. At the competition I played 18 holes against other colleges from across the region, it was nerve racking but really fun!

“I love studying at West Cheshire College, the balance of theory and practical work is great and I am learning new things all the time.

“When I realised I had made it to the National Championships I was thrilled, I am still learning all the time so to make it this far feels like a big achievement already.”

Arron will compete as part of the overall 2016 National Championships held between 15 - 17 April 2016 in Tyne and Wear and is one of the largest annual sporting events in England, involving over 1,800 college students.

Arron adds: “The game at the National Championships hasn’t been confirmed yet but I know I am up against the three top other players from across the UK, I am preparing all the time for this so I hope it pays off.

“Although I am still in my first year, once I have completed my College course I want to play golf professionally and this competition is really spurring me onto achieve my dream.”

Geoff Hilton, Course Leader at West Cheshire College, says: “Myself and everyone at the College is extremely proud of Arron, going on to represent the North West is a massive achievement.

“Arron is hardworking and dedicated to pushing himself to reach his goal, I know he will do fantastically well in the National Championships and I wish him all the luck in the world.”
