A Beauty student from West Cheshire College reached the finals of the recent WorldSkills UK Skills Competition and has walked away proudly with a Silver medal.
Fatemeh Parhiz, 36, from Chester, who has now finished her Level 3 Nail Services City & Guilds Diploma at West Cheshire College, says: “I was over the moon when I got through from the semi- finals to the finals of the WorldSkills Competition in Birmingham as the competition is of an extremely high standard.”
At the WorldSkills event, Fatemeh entered into the Advanced Nail Enhancement category which involved having to create a set of gel or acrylic nails on a model. Fatemeh and her fellow competitors were then marked on their skills of applying the nail and varnish, but also how neat they were and how tidy they kept their station. This was Fatemeh’s sixth competition and in four of them she has gained first place.
Fatemeh adds: “It was nerve wracking but I enjoyed the whole experience and I wouldn’t have made it to the finals if it wasn’t from the support of my tutor Andrea Rimmer, who has always pushed me to get the most out of what I could do.
“When I found out I had won Silver at the celebration ceremony I was thrilled! I have entered a lot of competitions along the way and this really was the icing on top, I am so proud of myself. Nails are my passion and I think that really shone through.
Now that Fatemeh has completed her course at West Cheshire College, she would like to go onto teaching and training within the industry.
Fatemeh adds further: “Even though my aim was Gold at the WorldSkills Championships, which I won last year, I am most definitely going to keep applying for more competitions and hopefully come back again next year. I have a competitive streak and I think that’s what has helped me to progress further and further.”
Andrea Rimmer, Course Leader at West Cheshire College adds: “Fatemeh continues to push and push herself. Her dedication really does pay off when it comes to the crunch.
“Fatemeh was a joy to teach and is a fantastic Nail Technician, I have no doubt she will be a brilliant success in the future.
Gaining Silver at the WorldSkills Competition is a fantastic achievement for Fatemeh and also the College, she is a great example of how our students constantly strive to reach their goals.”
WorldSkills UK Skills Competitions play a vital role in raising standards, esteem and levels of expertise in further education, apprenticeships and skills through competition activities and local initiatives.
