If you want to work in the motor vehicle industry, we can help you gain the skills and experience you need to start your career. At West Cheshire College you’ll learn in real work environments to ensure you are fully prepared to go into employment in the industry. You’ll gain the necessary skills and experience to work in a range of roles, which could include Motor Vehicle Technician, Motor Vehicle Breakdown Engineer, Garage Mechanic or a Vehicle Tester. You could also progress to an Apprenticeship, combining training in the workplace with attending College one day a week.
Our courses provide you with a balance of practical and theory work - you’ll build your practical knowledge in our motor vehicle workshop, developing your vehicle maintenance and repair skills. You’ll also learn about body construction, tyres, brakes, steering systems, and more advanced concepts such as electrical systems, chassis systems and fault diagnosis.

Our new motor vehicle workshop has all the equipment and facilities you would expect to find in a real working garage. There are four vehicle ramps, numerous engines on stands, donated vehicles from Vauxhall and Toyota, test equipment and Snap-on Modus Ultra and Pico 4-channel scope diagnostic equipment.
Trips and Activities
You will experience the world of work with visits to local motor vehicle employers and manufacturers to learn about business operations and to gain a better understanding of the industry.
Most students progress to higher-level study at the College either from Level 1 to Level 2 or from Level 2 to Level 3, or progress into employment or Apprenticeships in the industry in roles such as Motor Mechanic, Light Vehicle Technician, and other roles undertaking the repair and maintenance of motor vehicles.
