West Cheshire College Weather Station - Chester (UK)

The weather station is situated at our Chester Campus, just south of the city centre and has been in operation since 1997.

In July 1999 the weather site won the Becta / Guardian UK School and College Web Site Award. Since then the site has expanded and encompassed the latest technology to provide near real time local conditions and global satellite imagery.

Weather data is constantly monitored by a fully automatic Davis Vantage Pro system and current weather  conditions are updated on the college website every 5 minutes.

In addition to this, a range of graphs display daily, weekly and 3 monthly readings and an archive of yearly data is also available.

Four webcams show current weather conditions updated every 2 minutes as well as live streaming
Note: Live streaming (Internet Explorer only.  Firefox requires IE plug in)

Satellite Images:

European and Global satellite images are received from Meteosat Second Generation satellites via the EUMETCast system using the EUROBIRD™ 9 satellite at 9°E.

The college is internationally renowned for providing a reliable source of quality satellite images for use in the community including the high resolution visible images used by the Institute of Astrophysics in the Canaries (IAC) to aid their observation work in Tenerife.
